Your magic notebook can be more than just a piece of your magic aesthetic. A witches magic journal, often referred to as a Grimoire or a Book of Spells is a collective of knowledge gathered throughout that practitioners journey. There is a lot to learn in magic and as a force that is more fluid than solid, you'll want to make sure you have a hard copy of the things you have learned and believe. As you'll learn in your Basics class, magic may change its form depending on the viewer. On that same note, your relationship with magic may also change with the absorption of new paradigms and new knowledge. Your notebook retains knowledge as you remember it by your own hand~
While learning, I advise keeping a hand written magic journal. Artistic merit not required but the idea is
to "Put yourself onto the page."
{We do this literally in one of your 1st assignments} The practice can be meditative and produces a material manifestation of the etherical. Plus you will be creating a "key" so to speak, that you can reference any time you're need to go back and check your foundation. Magic isn't always written in plain English and in many cases not in English at all. Having a quick unchanging "key" that you can trust is vital to your learning. In addition to this, having a hand written Book of Shadows keeps your particular practice free of prying eyes online~ Even more so if, like me, you enjoy writing in alternative scripts such as Runes or Theban.
